Psalm 66
Daily Devotional from Psalm 66–
Verses 1,13, & 16
“Shout for joy to God, all the earth! I will come to your temple with burnt offerings. Come and hear all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.”
God is HUGE! He made it all; the earth, the sky, the land, the sea – great things and tiny things - wonderful things and frightening things. The psalm starts there and provides a universal call. It’s an invitation for “all the earth” to recognize God’s might and to praise His Majesty. This is a right and appropriate thing to do as only God is worthy of that kind of adulation.
But then the psalmist shifts to an individual perspective – from “we” to “I,” and commits personal fealty and adoration to the God he loves – the God who loves him back. “I will come…”
Then we move to testimony. “Come and hear!” the psalmist shouts. Let me tell you who He is and how He loves me! “..let me tell you…”
Psalm 66 gives us a beautiful picture of a correct response to the King of the Universe and lover of our souls. Reach upward, reach inward, reach outward. Lord God, I kneel before your throne and give you all. (“Hey, you. Yes, you. Let me tell you about my God!”)
