2 Chronicles 3
Daily Devotional from 2 Chronicles 3--
Verse 1
“Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.”
The story of David at the threshing floor on Mount Moriah is found in 2 Samuel 24:16-24. David, who had sinned by taking a census, wouldn’t take the offering of the Jebusite because his sin HAD to cost him something.
Also on Mount Moriah was the sacrifice of Isaac (Gen 22). Abraham’s faith was about to cost him something—his own son. It’s not by accident that God decided his dwelling place would be on this mountain. Mount Moriah is a place where right relationship with God has a cost.
God did not let Abraham sacrifice Isaac because God was going to pay the cost of sin himself, through Jesus. David paid the physical cost of his sin on Mount Moriah, but generations later, Jesus, son of David, son of Abraham, was put to death as the ultimate cost for sin. Our sin. Scripture tells us that through the Holy Spirit, our bodies are now the Temple of God. Our lives are like Mount Moriah, a place where Jesus paid the cost for our sin, and in turn we pay the cost of a life filled with faith and worship of God (1 Cor 6:19-20).
