2 Chronicles 24
Daily Devotional from 2 Chronicles 24--
Verse 17-18
“...Then the king listened to them. And they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols…”
Joash, why?!? You had such a noble start to your reign–what happened? From the beginning of the chapter to the end, we see a complete 180° turn in the king. It’s almost like Joash lost his way once Jehoiada, the prophet, died. There are a few principles we could take from this chapter. First, we have to be careful who we’re listening to and allowing to influence our decisions and devotion. It seems that all it took for Joash to turn away from God was the influence of the princes of Judah. Second, we have to be careful not to slip away from God slowly! We don’t get to see what happened beyond the text in Joash’s heart, but if he had been seeking God consistently, I don’t think he would have been so easily swayed by the princes of Judah!
Take some time today to reflect: do I have any ungodly people influencing my life? Am I staying close to Jesus? Take these things to God in prayer and let him lead you forward.
