2 Chronicles 14

Daily Devotional from 2 Chronicles 14--

Verse 2 & 6
“2 And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. 6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the Lord gave him peace.”

Horace, a latin poet under the reign of the Roman Emperor Augustus, said, “Kings play the fool, and the people suffer for it.”

Israel had seen its share of people suffering under the kings who rejected Yahweh, the Lord God Almighty. Now they have a king who is doing what is right and good in the eyes of the Lord. And during his reign then built fortified cities; the land had rest, and the people lived in peace.

God certainly rewards those who diligently seek Him. In fact there are 33 scriptures in the Bible that remind us of this. One of my favorites is Psalm 9:10, “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

This chapter gives us two incentives; first do what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord, seeking Him with all of our hearts. Second, pray for our leaders, that they would do what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord. That is the path to peace in our land.
