Judges 20
Daily Devotional from Judges 20--
Verses 26
Then all the people of Israel, the whole army, went up and came to Bethel and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.
After suffering defeat twice in battles against Benjamin, the people of Israel finally inquired of the Lord.
28b …And the Lord said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will give them into your hand.”
Sometimes we find ourselves battling our temptations, sins or circumstances to no apparent avail. We can make things much worse, even when thinking we are following the Lord and justified in our actions. These verses are an example of full sorrow [weeping], repentance [fasting] and reliance on the Lord [inquiring].
Let us not rush in. Instead, inquire of the Lord, stay humbly in his presence, listen for his voice and submit to his direction. Give him sacrifices of our plans, hopes and challenges. He is our victory! The battle is his! He will “give them into our hands”.
