Psalm 99
Daily Devotional from Psalm 99—
Verse 8
Lord our God, you answered them; though you punished their misdeeds.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that Grace and Justice can exist at the same time? Psalm 99 starts with a frightening acknowledgement of God’s Power and Dominion. It says “…let the nations tremble.” So great is His Might. In later verses, the psalm explains His Reign, His Righteousness and His Authority.
Verse 8 shows us His perfect balance of Forgiveness and Accountability. Our wonderful Father is deeply compassionate and forgiving; and that is a reassuring thing to know when we’re talking about the same God described in verse 1. You know, the “…let the nations tremble” God. Yeah, that guy. His Discipline comes from His Love for us. Forgiveness does not mean a lack of
accountability. At the very moment he disciplines us, he showers us with His Mercy and offers us restoration.
Thank you, Father, for loving us enough to discipline us. And thank you for Your Loving Mercy.
