Psalm 96

Daily Devotional from Psalm 96–

Verse 8
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!

When you get up and go to a building to gather with the saints on Sunday morning and worship, it is not supposed to be just come - sit - listen - leave. The psalms are full of specific instructions of HOW to worship God. And verse 8 is one of those: bring an offering when you come into His courts. That might be financial, or it might be an act of service: greeting, helping with kids, playing an instrument, running a camera. It might also look like finding someone you don’t know well and taking time to get to know them, or asking someone how you can be praying for them.

The point is, church is not a spectator sport. God gets the glory due to Him when His people are active participants. Jesus the Son of God modeled this for us when he was on earth. He served, He prayed, He loved on people. If there was a MealTrain, He’d have been the first to sign up!

If you’re not already bringing some sort of offering to the Lord and his community each Sunday, ask Him how He’d like you to start doing so!
