The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.
The overall tone of this psalm is somber. “The faithful have disappeared,” David bemoans. Everyone on earth speaks nothing but lies to each other. I’ll tell you what, online gossip forums provide space for exactly that today. It takes strong will to stay out of the fray, to refuse to engage in online swordfights over differences of belief or opinion.
But David finds solace in a timeless truth: GOD DOESN’T LIE. When gossip, slander and chaos swirl around you, focus on God’s words. They are pure, they are beautiful. They will refresh your soul.
