Nehemiah 4
Daily Devotional from Nehemiah 4--
Verse 21
“So we labored at the work, and half of them held the spears from the break of dawn until the stars came out.”
The work had begun. The temple was finally being rebuilt. It wouldn’t be the magnificent structure like Solomon’s, but it would be built, and the Israelites would have a place to worship. The new temple didn’t come without cost; some enemies were furious and tried to stop them from building.
But Nehemiah had prayed to God. The Lord was building a temple, and His enemies couldn’t stop it. When we look at Nehemiah’s prayer for the temple, we find that he prayed some pretty strong words:
“No longer cover their iniquity nor blot out their sin which is before You since they have made insults against the builders.” Nehemiah prayed a desperate prayer. He was desperate for God to help them. And God responded.
When we pray, God responds. Just like He did for Nehemiah, God will fight for us as long as we are humbly working to honor Him and to promote His purposes. Can we do that? Can we do what God has asked us to do? If we follow Him, we can be sure that no matter how great our difficulties, God will fight our battles.
