Psalm 47
Daily Devotional from Psalm 47–
Verse 5
“God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.”
The Psalmist makes a clear point throughout the psalm: God is the king over all nations. Yet He is not some far-off, distant, or fantastical ruler. Instead, He is deeply personal, relating to his subjects, and this is a cause for joy. For God to ascend, He must have descended. The psalmist recognizes that the Lord is a King who wishes to relate to His people. We attest to this in the incarnation of Christ. Just as the psalmist calls for shouts of joy at the King’s ascension, so we should carry on the sound of praise.
