1 Kings 2
Daily Devotional from 1 Kings 2–
Verse 3b
…‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
David wanted his children to serve God and rule in righteousness. But they didn’t have the same heart for God. Solomon was given everything and all wisdom, and yet he repeatedly failed. And God was true to His Word. David’s descendants eventually lost their kingship.
The above promise was conditional, but God made another promise to David that wasn’t conditional in 2 Samuel 7:16. God said, “And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’” This promise was fulfilled, in Jesus. God is always faithful.
We may not see the seeds we plant in our kids and young people come to fruition. However, even if we don’t see it, we can trust that the work will take root. Something is going to happen, remain steady, and keep the faith even when you don’t see it. God is sure to fulfill his word and many of us will reap 30, 60, and 100 fold!
