2 Samuel 17

Daily Devotional from 2 Samuel 17--

Verse 16
Now therefore send quickly and tell David, ‘Do not stay
tonight at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over, lest the king and all the people who are with him be swallowed up.’

God was watching out for David, his anointed. David had a friend that was a spy in Absalom’s court. He had people that would risk their lives to warn him of danger.

God is watching out for us as well. When the spiritual enemy attacks, we can put on spiritual armor (Eph 6:13-18), use God’s word against the enemy (Heb 4:12), depend on the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:26-27), pray and fast (Eph 6:18; Mt 17:21), use the authority of Jesus’s name (Lk 10:19; Mk 16:17), take advantage of our church family to provide support and council  (Heb 10:24-25; Acts 2:42), and depend on the promises of God to give us strength and hope.

When a baby cries, one of the resources we use is called a “binky”.  It just makes sense to use it. When we struggle, doesn’t it make even more sense to take advantage of the spiritual resources that God supplies?
