Verse 7
...For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

I’m so glad that the Lord sees our hearts. What a relief that I don’t have to be the smartest, strongest, or best-looking for God to use me! But that also means I must give great care to the condition of my heart.

In today’s chapter, Samuel was given the paramount task of anointing the person who would be the next king of Israel. At first, he was looking at the physical qualities of each man, but he quickly caught on to the fact that God was after the heart. God didn’t want his people to be led by striking facial features or big muscles. No, he wanted his people to be led by someone with heart.

When we are faced with a decision, what do we rely on? Our physical ability? Our good looks? Our winning personality? Or do we reach deeper and seek God’s will for our hearts?
“For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

May we be people of heart.
