1 Samuel 11
Daily Devotional from 1 Samuel 11—
Verses 12-13
Then the people said to Samuel, “Who is it that said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.” But Saul said, “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked salvation in Israel.”
Remember the slogan “Not MY President”? Well, here we see it is not a new attitude. The reality is, God has given us free will to do and choose as we please. Our government has given us free voice to vote as we please. So as much as we pray for unity, there will always be division because there will always be difference. Difference of opinions, values, and priorities.
And that’s okay! Differences are good because they help us see different perspectives. If we’re willing to listen. Many seem willing to listen only in order to respond. But Jesus gave us a new commandment: LOVE. That means listen in order to learn and understand. Do something that will bless a stranger just to help restore their faith in our shared humanity. Refuse to retaliate. Be the first to encourage, support, and celebrate others who are not like-minded. That’s what it looks like to love. It’s easy to love those who love you back. What about the others? Who are you going to love today?
