Judges 7

Daily Devotional from Judges 7–

Verse 2
The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand…

Wait, what? Too many? Don’t you mean too few?

No, Gideon. I said too many. You have too many soldiers. When you win this victory (and you will win), I don’t want you thinking that you won because of the size of your army. Therefore, I’m going to shrink your unit of 32,000 men down to (let me think)... 300! Yeah, that’s about right. Only then will you (and everyone else) know that this victory was nothing but the LORD.

And this principle can apply to you and me. So the next time your resources diminish, remember this story. Gideon suffered a 99% reduction and he still came out on top. So instead of relying on numbers, reputation, or funding, sometimes we’re forced to rely on God’s guidance alone. Your “300-moment” might feel a bit scary, but then again it might just be your greatest set-up yet. Keep your trust in the LORD.
