Joshua 19
Daily Devotional from Joshua 19—
Verse 47
When the territory of the people of Dan was lost to them, the people of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and after capturing it and striking it with the sword they took possession of it and settled in it, calling Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor.
Wait…what? Dan LOST the land that was appointed to them? When did that happen? Well, scholars believe it was within 50 years of receiving their coastal inheritance, which happened to border the Philistines, who happened to be rather aggressive neighbors. Dan couldn’t beat the Philistines so they moved way up north of the other tribes.
Sometimes we know we are where God wants us to be, and yet something goes wrong and we just can’t do it. I think it’s okay. As long as we gave it our best shot, I think sometimes God allows us to try a thing for a season and when it doesn’t work out, he moves us on. The important thing is to keep following and worshipping him, and give yourself grace.
