Deuteronomy 17
Daily Devotional from Deuteronomy 17–
Verses 18-19a
And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that….
When the Jews would one day ask God for a king to lead them, one of the requirements of the king was that he must copy the law and read it regularly throughout his life, that….
He would learn to fear the Lord by observing His instructions.
He would not be overcome by pride, and he would not be diverted from the right path.
As followers of the Word, we should do the same — read the Scriptures (and even copy them for better retention). As we do, the living and active Word will do a work in us (Hebrews 4:12) and help us defeat sin (Psalm 119:11).
