Deuteronomy 7
Daily Devotional from Deuteronomy 7–
Verse 9
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations…
People change. We go through different phases of life, we change our likes and dislikes, we move, we deconstruct, reimagine, and reinvent. Change can be negative or positive in each person’s life, but it doesn’t always breed stability or security in relationships. I am not the same person I was when I got married (thank God!) but my husband and I have grown and changed together in the grace of God.
Not all change is the same, though. People drift apart. Friends come in and out of our lives for a season. Co-workers are friends until someone changes jobs. We falter, we fail. You never know - really - who’s going to be there for you 10, 15, 20 years down the road.
BUT GOD. God is faithful. God doesn’t change. God keeps his covenants and his promises and loves us with a steadfast love. For a thousand generations. THAT should breed stability and security. Rest your soul in that knowledge today and thank Him for his unchangeability!
