Deuteronomy 1

Daily Devotional from Deuteronomy 1--

Verse 8
See, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession of the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their offspring after them.

We see in the book of Deuteronomy a repetition of events described in Exodus and Numbers. “Deutero” means “second”. We are visiting events and teachings a second time. Why would God repeat Himself with an additional book of the Bible?

I can think of two reasons: Repetition signifies importance. Repetition helps us remember.

God wants us to remember what He’s taught us and what He’s done for us. How? Spend more time in His Word. Enjoy its history, unity, beauty, guidance, encouragement, challenges, comfort, and poetry. Talk with God about it. Join with your church in our daily Bible reading. Join a Bible discussion group. And don’t make the reading of the Bible just a mental exercise. Ask God how His Word applies to you personally and act upon it! He is with us, helping us along!
