Leviticus 21
Daily Devotional from Leviticus 21—
Verse 23
But he shall not go through the veil or approach the altar, because he has a blemish, that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am the Lord who sanctifies them.
Reading through this long list, you realize just how strict the law was for the Israelites. And rightfully so, the standard for holiness is high, and it has to be, because God can’t lower his standard. Many were disqualified. In fact, all of us were disqualified from entering past the veil and going into God’s Holy place. Holiness is still required, but it looks a bit different today. The veil has been torn, and access to the Holy of Holies has been granted to all who put their trust in Jesus. Blemishes are washed away, and our transgressions are all forgiven by the risen Savior. And it's so easy to get into God’s presence today!
Today, take some time to just dwell on the grace of God and how good the news of the gospel of Jesus really is. Our work didn’t get us to God, but God came to us as Jesus in the flesh. We were once disqualified, but now, through the blood of Jesus, we have been qualified and belong to God.
