Leviticus 4
Daily Devotional from Leviticus 4--
Verses 16-17
Then the anointed priest shall bring some of the blood of the bull into the tent of meeting, and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord in front of the veil.
Many are repulsed by the thought of these bloody animal sacrifices, but they had an important function. Animal sacrifices were made to atone (gain forgiveness) for the sin which defiled a person’s relationship with God.
Sin requires death (Rom 6:23a), but blood represents life (Lev. 17:11).
Blood obtained by the death of the sacrificial animal was sprinkled on the tabernacle floor. This symbolized a restoration - the death caused by defilement of sin restored by the life of the blood. Because of the Father’s love, the Old Testament sacrificial system was replaced by the once-for-all sacrifice of the Perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
All we must do is believe, confess our sins, repent and ask to receive that forgiveness.
