1 Kings 18-19
Daily Devotional from 1 Kings 19--
Verses 11-12
And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.
Sometimes God makes himself known in our lives with an obvious sign, as He did with Elijah and the prophets of Baal. For us, maybe it’s a miracle answer to prayer. Perhaps a loved one has been healed of stage 4 cancer.
More often, God speaks to us in whispers, just as He did with Elijah - in a low whisper, at a time when Elijah feared for his life. In the midst of our needs, great or small, God hears our prayers. His answers may be subtle, the miracle small - maybe just enough to comfort us - just enough to support our faith - to keep us going - to keep us believing. We are called believers for a reason.
God is faithful to speak, whether it be with a shout or with a whisper. Let us be faithful to listen, sometimes carefully, and believe.
