Verses 29-30
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, so that Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.
We have a wealth of information at our fingertips today – between Google and YouTube, we can learn anything. But knowledge is not the same as wisdom. Knowledge is just information, and anyone can get that. Wisdom is the ability to apply that knowledge, and to discern whether an idea is right or wrong. Wisdom is not something we get once and for all; we must continue to grow in it.
Solomon exhorted people repeatedly in the Proverbs to “get wisdom”. In 1 Corinthians 1:24, Paul says that Christ is the wisdom of God. Jesus is wisdom. So to follow Solomon’s prodding today, we should GET MORE JESUS. Get Jesus by reading his word, by listening to music about him, by talking to people about him – the same internet that provides a ridiculous amount of goofy animals and dancing babies also has some amazing resources to GET MORE JESUS.
