Daily Devotional from Romans 9--

Verses 6b-8
For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.”

I saw on the news this morning, a woman holding a sign at a protest over the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. The sign said, “America is not a Christian nation.”
 
I agree.

Just as Paul stated we are not God’s children merely because we are physically descended from Abraham, we are not Christians because we were born or live  in a country founded on Christian principles. I heard it stated once this way. “Just because you live in a garage doesn’t make you a Volkswagen.”

Being in a personal relationship with God cannot be inherited. We are not Christians because our parents, or our ancestors are Christians. We are not Christians because we attend a Christian church. We are Christians because we have personally chosen to follow a path (the Way) laid out by the Father. (John 3:16,17)
