Verse 7
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
 
I love this verse, because it’s true – the first step in seeking wisdom is to realize you don’t have it yet!
 
But where do we get wisdom?? I pray for it A LOT. Aside from that, unless it’s the Bible (the book of Proverbs is actually referred to as “wisdom literature”), I am very careful. So many times, what sounds wise is just someone’s opinion. And opinions vary. The wisdom of the world is foolishness (1 Cor. 3:19), so I weigh everything I hear and read against our measuring rod: God’s word.
 
If we don’t measure things against God’s word, then we are measuring them against something that is not solid. Cultural norms shift. Opinions change. God’s word is the only unchanging standard we have, so it must be where we get wisdom, and what we hold anything else up against to determine if it’s wisdom, opinion, or folly.
