Matthew 1
Daily Devotional from Matthew 1--
Verse 21
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
God had been silent. It had been about 400 years since God had spoken to His chosen people through Malachi’s Old Testament book of prophecy.
But then an angel came to Joseph to announce good news of the virgin-birth arrival of a savior to be named Jesus. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14).
The Old Covenant of the Law was to be surpassed by a New Covenant of grace, and the first step was the birth of Jesus.
Without the birth of Jesus, there could never be His death, burial and resurrection which bought our pardon and restored our relationship with the Father.
Let’s start this new year with renewed appreciation for the Father’s loving gift and His Son’s obedient sacrifice.
