Zechariah 4-6
Daily Devotional from Zechariah 4--
Verse 6
Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts."
This was the answer given by the angel of the Lord to Zechariah’s request for explanation of the vision of a lampstand, bowl and olive trees.
A lamp’s purpose is to provide light in darkness. The bowl would hold the oil (fuel) for the fire, and was provided by the olives.
Israel was chosen to bring light to the world through Jesus (John 1:4).
Believers are the bowls (vessels) that contain the oil of the Holy Spirit. Through the power of the Holy Spirit - not our own might or power - we are to provide light (good news) to the lost in darkness, so they may find their way to the altar of forgiveness.
Whenever God calls us to do something, remember, we must depend on His power for success (Eph. 3: 20-21).
