Job 34
Daily Devotional from Job 34--
Verse 32a
Teach thou me what I do not see…
In a sermon on Job 34, Charles Spurgeon talked of believers excusing sin as “constitutional” or a part of one’s “temperament” and thus unavoidable. “It’s just the way I am. I can’t help it”. The enemy would have us believe this about besetting sins and vulnerabilities which we may indulge in ourselves or expect others to overlook. Unbelievers can also think of themselves, or others tell them, they will never change, they are incorrigible. It’s useless, hopeless.
This scripture reminds us that we don’t have to stay where we are, but ask God to
“…teach me what I do not see.” It’s not that we can just determine not to sin in a particular way anymore, but the Lord’s strength is made perfect in weakness. We can call upon the Holy Spirit to help us overcome and by his grace and power, be victorious. Let’s also pray for unbelieving friends and relatives to have their eyes opened to the truth of the gospel and come to new life in Christ, a life of mercy and hope.
