2 Samuel 24
Daily Devotional from 2 Samuel 24–
Verse 24b
I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing.
Sometimes pride is so sneaky. As we have been reading in 1 & 2 Samuel, David consistently inquires of the LORD what he should do. But here we see him reveling in the size of his army. He orders a census taken, just so he knows how big it is. Pride snuck up on him.
Repentance comes with a cost. While Jesus took on the consequence for our sin, repentance comes with the difficulty of confession, repentance, and reconciliation with those we sinned against. It requires humility and vulnerability.
Will we allow Jesus to transform our hearts through the power of his death and resurrection (like David), or will we allow our pride to keep us from the costly work of transformation?
