Verse 4 and 6a
So Hanun took David’s servants and shaved off half the beard of each and cut off their garments in the middle at their hips, and sent them away…the Ammonites saw that they became a stench to David…
Even though David was acting in kindness, King Hanun’s advisors convinced him that David was actually acting in malice, which led to a pointless war where thousands of people lost their lives.
Sometimes we allow the wrong people to influence our minds. We begin to think suspiciously instead of graciously, which leads to death (the death of relationships, death of connection, ultimately a life without hope).
Give others the benefit of the doubt. Ask questions. Seek clarification. Have difficult conversations. Pray. Don’t let the enemy have a foothold in your mind towards another person.
