2 Samuel 9
Daily Devotional from 2 Samuel 9--
Verse 1
And David said, “Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?”
The Oxford dictionary defines kindness as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Paul said that kindness is one of the identifiers of a life filled with the Spirit.
David could have shown ‘kindness’ just by letting Mephibosheth live, in an era when new kings often wiped out the entire bloodline of previous kings. But David was full of the Spirit of God, so he went above and beyond – his kindness wasn’t just in words, it was in actions. He lavished kindness on Mephibosheth, because he had loved his father Jonathan.
We are called to be filled with the Spirit and love everyone. Therefore, kindness in our lives should be an above-and-beyond kindness. Towards everyone! Ask God to help you exhibit this fruit of the Spirit every day – ask him how you can go above and beyond in being friendly, generous, and considerate, and then do it!
