2 Samuel 2
Daily Devotional from 2 Samuel 2—
Verses 10-11
Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
After Saul’s death, Ish-bosheth the son of Saul was made king over the northern tribes of Israel. (This makes sense because usually a king is replaced with his son.) But David was anointed King of Judah, the southern kingdom. This led to a temporary civil war that was a precursor to a centuries-long division of the northern and southern kingdoms.
Obviously, this fighting and separation among God’s chosen people wasn’t what He wanted. The kind of separation God DOES want from His people is
that they be separate from the sinful values, priorities, and lifestyles of the world (Rom 12:2; Jn 15:9).
Ask God to change your heart to love what He loves, and how to practically share that love with others.
