Revelation 8
Daily Devotional from Revelation 8--
Verses 3-4
And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.
Right in the midst of a time of judgement we find the prayers of the saints being offered with incense to rise to our God sitting on His throne.
Offering incense was one of the tabernacle rites commanded by God.
“He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil, and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord had commanded Moses.” (Exodus 40:26-27)
Why are the prayers of the saints connected with incense?
King David saw this connection. In Psalm 141:2a we read, “Let my prayer be counted as incense before you.”
When incense is added to coals in a censer, a pleasing fragrant smoke is produced which rises toward the sky. Our prayers to God are like this incense - a pleasing (to God) fragrance rising to His throne room.
