Esther 1

Daily Devotional from Esther 1--

Verse 12
“But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command delivered by the eunuchs. At this the king became enraged, and his anger burned within him.”

King Ahasuerus’ angry response to Vashti’s refusal makes me so grateful for King Jesus and the way he responds to us. Unlike Ahasuerus, Jesus is humble and gentle at heart (Matthew 11:29). He rules with grace and mercy; he is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Psalm 145:8). When we make a mistake and come to him in repentance, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

The idea of being subject to the rule of a king can seem intimidating. And by earthly standards, it is! But Jesus is a different kind of King in a different kind of Kingdom. When we rebel, he invites us to come back. When we make a mistake, he offers forgiveness.

That’s the King I want to follow!
