1 Kings 13

Daily Devotional from 1 Kings 13–

Verse 6
…Entreat now the favor of the Lord your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.

The Lord sent the man of God to confront Jeroboam for his idolatry. God demonstrated his love for Jeroboam in two ways in this passage. The Lord presents the man of God’s warning accompanied by the sign of the disfigurement of his hand when he tried to seize the prophet.  God gave him an opportunity to repent and turn away from his sin. God also showed Jeroboam mercy and favor by healing his hand. Instead of changing his ways, Jeroboam continued to reject God. He led his nation into sin which ultimately resulted in their destruction.

Even when we sin, the Lord will not abandon us. His Holy Spirit speaks to us to set us right from within, through wise counsel and by scripture. He gives us the same opportunity he gave Jeroboam: to listen, obey and take the right action. (1 John 1:9, Rom 12:21) The Lord willingly gives us love, grace, and forgiveness. It is so good to know he is always watching over us and orchestrating what is best for us!
