1 Samuel 26

Daily Devotional from 1 Samuel 26—

Verse 11
The Lord forbid that I shall put out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But take now the spear and the jar of water at Saul’s head and let’s go.

Saul has been rejected by God and David has been anointed. Although Saul was still king and sought to kill David, David refused to put his hand to Saul and claim his God-given right to the throne. David trusted God’s timing, not his own.

Even though Saul deserved retaliation, David refused to take it.

God wants us to see HIS mark on others, even our enemies, and trust the Holy Spirit to do what he does best.

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:43-45b
