1 Samuel 13
Daily Devotional from 1 Samuel 13—
Verse 13
And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.”
God values obedience. In Chapter 10, Samuel gave instructions for Saul to wait for him so that he can lead in offerings and show Saul what to do. When the time came, and Samuel was late, Saul did it all WITHOUT Samuel. Saul *mostly* obeyed what God had commanded through Samuel—but not fully—and it ended up costing him his anointing and his legacy.
Sin is like that. We can do everything correct and walk in obedience and godliness for the most part—but the little bit we compromise can wipe out all the good we do. It stains us. It taints our otherwise godly life. It can take us out and cost us our legacy, our calling, and our life.
But this isn’t the end of our story like it was for Saul. Jesus paid the price for our sin (death) and removes the stain of it from our lives. All we need is a soft heart that walks in repentance and faith. Is there any sin you need to repent of today before it claims your soul?
