Daily Devotional from 1 Samuel 2—
Verse 26
Now the boy Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the Lord and also with man.
In this passage, we see the contrast between Hannah’s son and Eli’s sons. Hannah was blessed with a son after being barren, and she gave that precious blessing back to the Lord. Samuel grew with a heart soft toward the Lord. But Eli’s sons took advantage of their position. They lived in a way that dishonored God.
For those of us who have children, we love them dearly, but we must be reminded of their Father in Heaven. It’s important that we instill in them from a young age to know Jesus. I believe this is the greatest gift we can give our children.
I believe that Hannah’s example of giving back to God what He blessed her with is beautiful. Whether that’s our kids, a job, a talent, anything—God can do more! Let’s remember to trust in Him today!
