Numbers 21
Daily Devotional from Numbers 21--
Verses 8-9
So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
The people complained against not just Moses in this instance, but against God himself. They became discouraged on the journey and “loathed” God’s provision for them. The serpents were sent as judgement and many died from their bites.
Jesus referred to this event in John 3:14-15:
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
Those who believe in Jesus and look to Him for salvation have eternal life. In both passages we see that nothing people can do will save them, only faith would give them life. This wondrous gift is offered to all who confess their sin, repent and trust in Jesus. God provides the way and we must respond. Jesus is always at the Father’s side advocating for us. Praises be to the Lord Jesus Christ! Let someone else know!
