Numbers 1

Daily Devotional from Numbers 1—

Verse 2
Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by clans, by fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head.

Reading a list of names can be boring, but the fact that they are included in the Scriptures means they are important and there for a reason (2 Tim 3:16). Genealogy was important to the Jews to determine if one could be called an Israelite and thus be qualified to obtain
rights granted due to citizenship - the blessings of Abraham. Not everyone who claimed to be an Israelite was; they had to prove it by tracing their ancestry.

Today, there are many who claim to be Christian but are not. Just because you live in a “Christian” nation doesn’t make you a Christian. Then how are we qualified? Not by searching out our ancestors, but by trusting in Jesus (John 3:16, 14:6; Romans 10:9; Eph. 2:8-9). Do you want to become a true Christian, with all of its promised benefits? Trust in Jesus and the work He did for you!
