Exodus 30
Daily Devotional from Exodus 30—
Verse 31
And you shall say to the people of Israel, “This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations.”
Ever wondered the origins of anointing oil? Here it is! And even the recipe to use. I, like others, had wondered why we anoint with oil, and this is a good place to start. The significance of this is so much deeper though.
In this passage, we see God command that the oil should not be put on an “ordinary person.” But we see in James 5:14-15 that the oil is used to anoint the sick for prayer–ordinary people, sick people even. In 1 Peter 2:9, we are told we are a Holy Nation and a Royal Priesthood if our faith is in Jesus. Even in this passage about the ingredients of anointing oil, we can see the redeeming work of the Father!
The Lord has called us out of an ordinary life, into a full life that is committed to Him. Today, remember that you are a person Chosen by our God.
