Daily Devotional from Genesis 27--
Verse 35
But Isaac said, “Your brother was here, and he tricked me. He has taken away your blessing.” NLT
This is a wild story. Jacob stole Esau’s blessing and went on to be Israel…THE Israel. It’s crazy! Why would God allow him to experience the blessing when it wasn’t even rightfully his? He didn’t deserve this honor; he didn’t deserve this name. Why couldn’t God just give the blessing to Esau? Instead, Israel would go on to show up 2,431 times in the Bible we read today. This seems so unfair!
Esau’s reaction reminds me of myself. I have lists in my mind of the ways I think God should do things. But, in a completely honest examination of myself, who am I to tell God what he should do and how he should do it? Compared to him, I know nothing! What can we learn from this story about Jacob and Esau? Well, the story actually isn’t about them, it’s about God and his plan. In the same way, our lives aren’t about us, they are about God. Will we put aside our desires and be participants in the work God is doing?
