Genesis 16
Daily Devotional from Genesis 16--
Verse 13
So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.’
Have you ever tried to take matters into your own hands, instead of letting God write the story of your life? I know I have many times, and we see here how Sarai and Abram did the same, even though God had promised to make Abram “the father of many nations.” Like Sarai, we look at our situation, and see how impossible it is. And instead of turning to God for direction, we go our own way.
But going our way often brings pain to our own lives, and the lives of others. Like how Sarai was mad that Hagar conceived and cast her out. The problem is, we forget that God has the best in mind for us. We don’t want to trust His Word and His guidance through the Holy Spirit. We are afraid of what might become of us if we let go of the need to constantly be in control. But, in the Scriptures, we see God continually bless and make things right for Abram, Sarai, and Hagar—if He did that for them, He will do that for us—because He is a “God of seeing” and He “looks after” us. Today, remember that He has the best in mind for you, He sees you, and He will keep his promises.
