1 Corinthians 9
Daily Devotional from 1 Corinthians 9--
Verse 26
So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.
Paul’s metaphor in this chapter discusses the importance of being sharp and ready to share the gospel. He compares it to running a race to receive a prize. There is an end goal—it’s not some aimless life.
The Church has an end goal—to make heaven crowded— so as part of the Church, we have a purpose. We are not running aimlessly. We belong to a larger body (a global body) that aims to be a light in the world and point others to Jesus.
Verse 27 goes on to say “Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”
We keep in shape, not to make ourselves worthy in God’s eyes (because that’s what Jesus does), but to keep our eyes and heart on our mission—to make heaven crowded.
