2 Kings 14

Daily Devotional from 2 Kings 16--

Verse 7
So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and rescue me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are attacking me.”

This is a hard moment in Judah’s history. King Ahaz faced fear and pressure, and instead of trusting God, he looked for security in human power and copied practices that pulled his heart away from the Lord. He remodeled God’s holy temple in the style of pagan idol worshippers! How easy it is to replace trust in God with cultural practices that feel safer or easier in the moment.

While it may be difficult to find something encouraging in this chapter, it is deeply instructive and hopeful for us today. God’s patience with His people continues throughout Scripture. Even when leaders failed, God did not abandon His promises. Pause regularly and examine where you place your trust. When we choose to turn back to God, He is ready to guide, restore, and strengthen us with wisdom that never fails.
