2 Kings 13
Daily Devotional from 2 Kings 15--
Verse 14
Then Menahem the son of Gadi came up from Tirzah and came to Samaria, and he struck down Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria and put him to death and reigned in his place.
Menahem, King of Israel for 10 years, was known only for his cruelty and idolatry. He is remembered for his violent actions and sacking cities. He paid the King of Assyria to let him rule in Israel. Since his death, he has been known only as a violent, cruel, and idolatrous person.
What a tragedy. It seems that the Kings of Israel were known for doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord. The Bible records their evil, and Heaven's books record ours.
As servants of the Lord, what is being written in Heaven about us? How will we be remembered? Will someone write that we are known for our cruelty, or that we were kind and filled with the fruits of the Spirit?
Today is the first day of the rest of our lives. Let's live, sharing the love and kindness of our Father. Let's please Him and give Him the praise He deserves. We can do that by honoring the Lord in the way we treat others.
Can we share a random act of kindness today with someone who needs it?
