Daily Devotional from Luke 1--
Verses 3-4
It seemed good to me also… to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
Luke’s Gospel has literally been in the hands of billions of people, but do you know that it was originally addressed to one guy named Theophilus? Interesting. God had much larger plans for the work than Luke himself seemed to realize.
Isn’t that usually the case with God? We do something with a relatively small scope, and God uses it on a much larger scale. Never despise your local context, your small sphere, your seemingly little task. Put your heart into your work. And trust that time and providence will do their secret work.
As Luke later describes, the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that grows into a massive tree (Luke 13:18-19). So, today, go on planting your seeds in your little plot of ground. But don’t be surprised, if years and perhaps generations later, something enormous has taken place as a result.
It’s just the way God works.
