Psalm 92
Daily Devotional from Psalm 92–
Verses 12-14
“The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green....”
What goes up and never comes down?
Your age.
If we are getting old, we know we are declining physically, so how do we yield fruit in our old age?
Stay sappy!
What’s in the sap of a tree? Nutrition for the tree. Through the process of photosynthesis, the green leaves convert water and carbon dioxide into carbohydrates used to provide structure to the tree (cellulose) and to grow fruit (sugar). This is why Jesus (John 15:5-6) compares Himself to a vine and us to branches. The vine is the source of sap. What happens to the branch that becomes detached from the vine? It withers and dies because it is deprived of nutrition. So, it is important to be sappy – especially in our old age. As we age, our physical body declines, so we do what we can do – stay attached to the vine, become more spiritually mature and bear fruit.
