1 Chronicles 26

Daily Devotional from 1 Chronicles 26--

Gatekeepers provided safety and security for those who entered the temple, lest they enter unlawfully on penalty of death.

Lots were drawn to choose to whom each gate was assigned, assuring God made those decisions and not people who might show favoritism to ones considered of greater prestige or position. Were gatekeepers less important than priests?

No, “…all tasks, whether mundane or specialized, ‘religious’ or ‘lay’, have value in the eyes of God.” (Selman)

No service is lowly or unimportant. God brought us into His “body” with distinct roles to play (1 Cor. 12:12-27).

Jesus made us His family, His body, and declared we each have a place and a purpose in them. We are not alone! We have each other for loving counsel, practical help, and godly accountability. Let’s work together to “stir one another up to love and good works” (Heb. 10:24)
(See also Ecclesiastes 4:9-13 & Psalm 133:1).
