2 Kings 9
Daily Devotional from 2 Kings 9–
Verse 7
And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge on Jezebel the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord.
Though this is a grisly chapter, it reminds us that God’s purposes move forward, even through unexpected people and dramatic moments. Jehu is anointed king in secret, showing that God often works behind the scenes before His plans become visible. The chapter highlights God’s justice: He sees corruption, abuse of power, and unfaithfulness, and He does not ignore them forever.
Jehu acts with intense zeal, and while his actions fulfill God’s judgment, the chapter invites us to reflect on our own hearts. Zeal alone is not the goal—faithful obedience is. God desires people who not only act boldly but also walk humbly and remain devoted to Him.
This passage challenges us to ask ourselves: Are we listening when God calls us, even if the task is uncomfortable? And are we aligning our passion with His will, not just our own impulses?
